About This Call
The Port of Portland is requesting statements of qualifications (SOQs) from professional artists to create a work of public art for Portland International Airport (PDX) in celebration of its 75th anniversary. The artwork budget must not exceed $35,000. This opportunity is open to professional artists over the age of 18 residing in Oregon and Washington.
The artwork should acknowledge PDX's historical impacts on the region and serve as a tribute to aviation and the airport's history. The installation must be site-specific and wall-mountable in the E concourse, designed with sensitive regard to the community and surrounding architecture. The artwork must be durable, easy to clean and maintain, comply with ADA requirements and public safety guidelines, and include a one-year guarantee against failure and a maintenance plan.
Up to four artists will be selected to create site-specific proposals and will each receive $2,250 honoraria after attending a mandatory site tour and presenting their proposals. The selected artist will be paid in three stages: up to 50% during design, up to 75% during fabrication, and final payment upon completion. An additional $5,000 has been allotted for installation, scheduled for October 2015. SOQ submissions must include a statement of interest (1000 words or less), resume (PDF), exactly 8 digital images of previous work with details, an image list with project descriptions (PDF), and three professional references with contact information (PDF). The deadline for SOQ submission is March 13, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Respondents must submit materials online through CaFÉ at www.callforentry.org. There is no registration or entry fee.
