About This Call

The Portland 2016 Biennial of Contemporary Art, curated by Michelle Grabner, is a major survey of Oregon visual artists who are defining and advancing the state's contemporary arts landscape. The exhibition will take place July 9, 2016 through September 18, 2016, staged citywide in Portland and supported by artist and curator talks, public works, and a catalog. Disjecta's 6,000 square foot space serves as the key venue, with the exhibition expanding to partner spaces throughout the city. For the first time, the Biennial also aims to activate locations around the state for site works, community engagements, and other public projects.

The Biennial platform may include visual arts and new media, as well as performance-based works, reflecting the hybridization and interdisciplinary character of contemporary practice. Selected artists will receive a stipend to create new work for the exhibition.

Entry fee is $20.00. Applicants must submit a minimum of 5 and maximum of 10 total work samples, which may include 5-10 images, up to 2 audio files, and up to 2 video files. The opportunity is open to regional artists in Oregon. The entry deadline is August 31, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
