About This Call

The Broward Cultural Division's Public Art & Design Program is seeking to commission up to three artists to design, fabricate and install artworks that improve functionality and passenger experience at several existing cruise ship terminals undergoing renovation at Port Everglades.

Artists shall design, build and install interior or exterior artwork(s) for one or more of the cruise passenger terminals undergoing renovations (Terminal 2, Terminal 19, Terminal 21, Terminal 26). Artwork locations include entryways and interior and exterior waiting areas. The desired effect is an aesthetic impact that reinforces the notion that Port Everglades is a gateway to a great vacation. Commissions will focus on art projects responsive to future changes in passenger circulation and building layout, all ADA requirements, and efficient passenger movement through the terminal. The total budget for the projects is not to exceed $420,000 and may be divided to provide for one or more separate art projects. Budget includes research, community and agency meetings, designs, presentation expenses, permits, fabrication, delivery, installation, insurance, travel and applicable taxes.

The Call to Artists is open to all professional artists residing in the United States. Selected artist(s) will be disqualified if unable to obtain a Port identification badge requiring fingerprinting and criminal background check. An Artist Selection Panel will review applications and select finalists based on excellence of past work of similar scope. Finalists will be invited to develop conceptual design proposals and will receive a $2,000 honorarium for the proposal and presentation expenses. Applications must include a letter of interest, professional résumé with public art commissions and contact information, and 10 digital images of recent completed work with an annotated image list. Applications must be submitted via CaFÉ at www.CallForEntry.org by December 6, 2010 at midnight MST (10:00 p.m. EST). Contact: Claire Garrett, (954) 357-7236, [email protected].
