About This Call

The City of Pompano Beach will commission an artist or team of artists for a work for hire mural to be installed on an exterior southeast stairwell located on the Pompano Beach Pier Parking Garage next to the Pompano Beach Tourism Center, 3460 NE 3rd St, Pompano Beach, FL 33062. The Parking Garage is next to the beach and across from the Pompano Beach Pier in the Fishing Village. The mural should represent the area and be cohesive with the existing permanent vinyl mural "A Place I'd Rather Be" by Mike and Donna-Lee Savlen, including similar colors and aquatic imagery. The design should have a strong presence with a creative concept. Logos are not permitted. Materials, design, and palette must withstand local weather and be amenable to ongoing maintenance. A UV resistant sealant must be applied to the finished product.

The selected artist will receive $15,000, which includes all taxes, insurance, fees, and equipment needed to complete the mural (such as cherry picker and paint). The artist will have 30 days to complete installation. The wall area will be power washed by the City prior to installation. The Public Art Program Manager and Public Art Committee will review and inspect the design during installation. The artist is required to provide photos or video documentation of the entire process.

Submissions must include digital images of previous mural projects (minimum 3, maximum 5), a resume, and a concept statement limited to 2,000 characters. After review, three artists will be shortlisted and paid an honorarium of $200.00 each. Shortlisted artists must provide a detailed design and participate in a possible interview. Selection criteria include appropriateness of the proposed design to the site, resume, and quality of artwork. The project is open to all visual artists nationally. Artists who are immediate family or business partners of Public Art Committee members or program staff are not eligible.
