About This Call

The City of Pompano Beach is commissioning an artist or artist team for a work for hire project to design, fabricate, and install an artistic light pole sculpture to be attached to the existing light pole located at the northeast corner of N. Flagler Avenue & NE 1st Street. The design should emphasize music, art innovation and be fun and surprising. Materials not allowed include plaster, masonry or concrete. The artist will ensure that the design will be code compliant and is responsible for providing engineering evaluation for the proposed light pole attachment and filing a permit application. Artwork must not go on the arm of the light pole.

Artists can submit up to three (3) separate applications. Each application must include: resume, artist statement regarding approach to project, and examples of past artworks similar to this project (minimum 3, maximum 5 images). Three (3) artists will be shortlisted and paid an honorarium of $200.00. The shortlisted artists will be required to submit detailed design proposals including mock images of the proposed designs and a budget list. The project is open to all professional artists nationwide. Artists are NOT eligible if they are immediate family or business partners of members of the Public Art Committee or program staff.

The selection process is managed by the City of Pompano Beach. The Pompano Beach Public Art Committee will create a subcommittee that will serve as the selection committee. The City Commission will have final approval of the selected artist and design. Final purchase approval is contingent upon inspection ensuring long-term conservation of the artwork. The project budget is $15,000.00.
