About This Call

Bailey Contemporary Arts Center (BaCA), operated by the City of Pompano Beach's Cultural Affairs Department, is seeking participants for its Artists in Residence Program. Eight studios at BaCA are available to individual artists—visual, performative, and theatrical—for a nine-month period from October 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025. The residency cultivates an environment where artists can develop their talents through artistic experimentation and collaboration. BaCA is located in Pompano Beach's Old Town neighborhood and features over 6,000 square feet of exhibition space across two galleries, a coffee shop, and an open gallery on the second floor. The facility includes two kilns available for ceramicists and pottery artists.

Eligibility is open to all individual artists in the U.S. who are at least 18 years of age and not currently enrolled in an academic program. The application fee is $25. Participants pay $250 per month for 8 months ($2,000 total), with no fee charged during the move-in month of September or the final month in June. After completing the full 9-month residency, artists receive a 30% reimbursement of their paid participation fees ($600), contingent on the returned condition of the studio space. Studios range from 96 to 196 square feet, and all participating artists pay the same amount regardless of studio size.

The residency includes 24-hour studio access, one-time feature as "Artist of the Month" with a $500 stipend, additional gallery space for showcasing work, marketing and PR support including artist profiles and social media promotion, professional development classes and consulting sessions, and opportunities to sell artwork at PBCAD events. Art sales from City exhibitions result in the City retaining 30% commission with 70% paid to the artist. Participants are responsible for their own housing, transportation, supplies, and other expenses. Application opens February 22, 2024 and closes March 21, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. A Zoom information session is scheduled for March 13, 2024 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. EST.
