Poetics of Light

Poetics of Light is a juried group photography exhibition at Black Box Gallery focusing on the quality and drama of light in photography. The show explores how exposure, direction, highlight, shadow, and contrast create striking and magical pictures. Black Box seeks a diversity of works exploring this dynamic theme of light in photography.

Entry fee is $35.00. Photographers may submit 1-5 images. The juror is Todd Johnson, founder and director of Black Box Gallery, who holds an MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute and has 15 years of experience as a college photography instructor in Portland.

The exhibition runs October 1-20, 2018, with an opening reception on Friday, October 5, 6-8:00 pm. Twenty-four photographs will be selected for exhibition at the gallery, and an additional 30 photographs will be selected for the online gallery annex. All 54 photographs will be included in a catalog available for purchase on Blurb Books. Black Box Gallery provides free printing, matting, and framing for all exhibitions using archival ink jet printing on premium luster photo paper. Exhibition prints will be kept in a flat file after the show for future sale and promotion. Black Box Gallery takes a 50% commission on all sales, with 50% going to the photographer. Artists may request that prints not be for sale and be used for exhibition and promotion only. All rights remain with the photographer.
