About This Call
Plein Aire Perspectives 2024 is an exhibition open to all Hawaii-based artists working in the plein air painting style. Works must be created outdoors and no photography, reproductions, or digital art will be accepted. Artists may submit a maximum of five entries, with a $15 non-refundable entry fee per submission and an additional $15 media fee.
Submission deadline is December 15, 2023 at 5:00 PM HST. Artists will be notified of acceptance on December 18, 2023. Artwork drop-off at Wailoa Center is Saturday, December 30, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Kona pick-up is available Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Akamai Arts (artwork dimensions cannot exceed 40"x40" including packaging). Off-island work must be received by December 29, 2023. Artists are responsible for shipping costs to and from Wailoa Center and must include a prepaid return label and $10 handling fee with packages. Checks should be made out to the Hawaiʻi Island Art Alliance (HIAA).
The exhibition opens January 5, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and closes January 25, 2024. Artwork pick-up is Friday, January 26 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Wailoa Center in Hilo and 10:00 AM at Akamai Arts parking lot in Kona. Juror Robert Weiss will evaluate work based on drawing, composition, design, color, and sense of place, time, and light. Monetary prizes will be awarded. Works should be for sale with HIAA charging a 20% commission on all sales.
