Plein Air to Prepare

During this month-long Plein Air experience, artists of all age and experience levels are invited to draw inspiration and create art from the beauty of Howard County's blossoming Kwanzan cherry, Native Dogwood and redbud trees. These pink and white flowering trees were planted by Blossoms of Hope, a local nonprofit, over the last 20 years to enhance quality of life through beautification projects and community support. Groves of trees are located along state and county roadways, in parks, at local libraries, and at private and government buildings. Many trees have been planted in honor and in memory of people's loved ones.

The Plein Air to Prepare event serves as inspiration for two future Blossoms Art Shows: the Blossoms 2024 Plein Air to Prepare Exhibit in May 2024 at The Howard County Welcome Center, and the Blossoms 2025 Countywide Art Show in March 2025 at 25+ community and private galleries. Upon registration, participants receive a site map of all pink and white flowering tree groves in Howard County, entry for the Plein Air exhibit, access to 1-hour art classes in the groves led by local artists, an invitation to the juried Plein Air Exhibit, and a $5 off coupon for the 2025 show.

The submission is open to all visual artists creating original artworks in 2-dimensional media. The exhibit will be limited to 50 pieces. Must be Maryland residents to participate. If an applicant is under 18, a parent or guardian must complete the application. Student scholarships are available—the first 100 students to apply participate for free; after that, students receive a 10% discount. Contact [email protected] or 443-538-0858 for scholarship codes.
