Plein Air Plus 2023

"Plein Air Plus" 2023 is the eighth annual national juried competition at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts in New Jersey. The juror will select approximately 50 artists to participate in the Paint Out on Long Beach Island during July 1st through August 31st, 2023. Accepted artists will exhibit paintings created during the Paint Out in the "Island Life" exhibition scheduled for September 16th through October 29th, 2023.

Artists can paint on their own schedule during the two-month Paint Out period, choosing their own time of day, weather conditions, and locations on Long Beach Island. The exhibition will feature selected artists' Plein Air works and/or studio paintings developed from their Plein Air studies. Two categories are available: "Classical" Plein Air (paintings completed on site without photography) and "Plein Air Plus" (paintings inspired by specific locations, with studies painted outdoors and completed in the studio). All artwork exhibited must be for sale. Painting media can include oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pastel.

Eligibility is open to all artists 18 years and older in the continental US. Entry deadline is June 1, 2023. The entry fee is $35.00 for 3 image submissions. Artists must submit 3 images of previous work painted in the past two years, with descriptions indicating whether each was created as "Classical" or "Plus," along with medium, date, and size. Accepted artists will be notified by June 2nd. Awards include First Prize ($500 for both Classical and Plein Air Plus categories), Second Prize ($250), Third Prize ($100), and 4 Honorable Mentions. The juror is Kiko Aebi from the Museum of Modern Art, NYC. Artists are not required to attend the reception. The LBIF retains 40% of the retail price of sold work, with artist payment 45 days after exhibition close.
