About This Call
The City of Plano has commissioned the Mural Project to transform the historic downtown neighborhood into a thriving arts district. The project is made possible by a grant from the Plano Heritage Commission and is commissioned by the Plano Art Association and Historic Downtown Plano Association. The first phase involves the creation of three murals with a focus on promoting tourism, honoring Plano heritage, and enhancing historical education.
The first mural will be located at the corner of 15th Place & Alex Schell across from the downtown Plano Dart station stop (28 feet tall x 72 feet long). The second mural, required to have a three-dimensional relief component, will be on the west wall of Angela's at the Cross Walk restaurant on 15th Street (21 feet tall x 61 feet long). The third mural's location is still being determined but must have a strong historical concept tied to Plano's heritage. Budgets are: Mural A: $26,100.00, Mural B: $26,300.00, Mural C: $4,100.00. The budget covers all costs including design, fabrication, and installation.
Artists must be 18 years or older and have created a mural larger than 10' x 10'. Submit qualifications, bio, 3 references, statement of interest, and 3-5 images of your work by February 10, 2017. Up to six artists will be selected as finalists and paid $500.00 each to submit visual design proposals. The project culminates with a public unveiling ceremony and press event in downtown Plano in April 2017.
