Pittsburgh Watercolor Society Aqueous Open 2021

Pittsburgh Watercolor Society invites artists to enter the PWS Aqueous Open 2021 International Juried Exhibit, held online via the PWS website. The exhibit runs from October 1 through November 30, 2021. This year's Juror of Selection and Awards is acclaimed artist, instructor, and juror Carla O'Connor.

The Aqueous Open is open to all artists 18 or older working primarily with water-based media on paper surfaces (YUPO and Tyvek are permitted). Accepted mediums include watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache, and egg tempera. Works on canvas or panels will not be accepted. No pastels, class work, digital images, prints, reproductions, alcohol inks, or copies of other artists' work are permitted. No more than 10% collage or water-based inks are allowed. Works must have been created within the last two years and not previously shown in another PWS exhibit. Artists may enter one or two pieces, but only one piece will be accepted.

Entry deadline is August 8, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Entry fee is $45 for non-members and $30 for Pittsburgh Watercolor Society members. Digital file images must be professional quality in high-quality jpg format, with dimensions of 1920 or greater pixels on the long side, resolution of at least 72 dpi, and file size of 5 MB or less. Acceptance notifications will be sent the first week of September. Awards total $5,000, with $1,200 going to Best of Show. All accepted work must be for sale; artists receive 70% of sales, with PWS retaining 15% to cover general expenses. Artists are responsible for shipping to purchasers.
