Pittsburgh Watercolor Society Aqueous Open 2018

The Pittsburgh Watercolor Society celebrates its 73rd anniversary with the Aqueous Open 2018 at Spinning Plate Gallery, 5821 Baum Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15206. Aqueous Open is the annual international exhibition open to all participants, member or not.

Artists may submit one or two pieces, though only one piece will be accepted. The exhibition is open to artists 18 or older working primarily with water-based media on a paper surface (YUPO and Tyvek are permitted). Eligible mediums include watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache, and egg tempera. Work must be unvarnished, sturdily framed under glass or Plexiglas, completed within the last two years, and not previously shown in a PWS exhibit. No canvas, pastels, class work, digital images, prints, reproductions, or copies of other artists' work are permitted. Collage is limited to 10%. All paintings must be for sale, with artists receiving 60% of sales.

Entry fee is $40 for non-members and $30 for Pittsburgh Watercolor Society members. Registration deadline is July 8, 2018. Accepted work must be delivered September 25-27 (shipped) or September 29, 2-4 pm (hand-delivered). The exhibition runs October 6-27, 2018, with an opening reception October 6, 5-8 pm. Over $5,000 in cash and merchandise awards are available, including a Best of Show award of $1,200. Awards are announced at the opening reception.
