About This Call

The Pittsburgh Watercolor Society Aqueous Open is open to all artists 18 or older working primarily with water-based media on an unvarnished paper surface (YUPO and Tyvek are also permitted). Eligible mediums include watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache, egg tempera, and up to 10% collage only. No pastels, class work, digital images, prints, or reproductions are permitted. Work must be original, completed within the last two years, and not previously shown in a PWS exhibit. All paintings must be sturdily framed under glass or Plexiglas.

Each artist may enter one or two pieces, but only one piece will be accepted. The entry fee is $40 for non-members and $30 for Pittsburgh Watercolor Society members. Submissions are due by July 11, 2016. Artists may submit online via CaFÉ at www.callforentry.org or by mail with digital images on CD or via email to [email protected]. Digital images must be professional quality, saved in high-quality jpg format at 300 dpi, with file size no more than 1 MB if emailing or 5 MB if registering online.

Accepted work must be framed and ready for hanging. Work may be hand-delivered to Spinning Plate Gallery on Sunday, September 25 from 2-4 pm, or shipped to arrive September 21-23, 2016 (shipped work requires a $50 handling fee and Plexiglas only, no glass). Notification of acceptance is the first week of August. The opening reception is October 1, 5-8 pm. All work must be for sale, with artists receiving 60% of sales. Awards total over $5,000 in cash and merchandise, with a Best of Show award of $1,200. The juror is Gerald F. Brommer. A workshop by Gerald Brommer will be held September 26-29 at First Unitarian Church, Pittsburgh, PA, with cost of $400 for non-members and $375 for PWS members.
