About This Call

The Broward Cultural Division's Public Art & Design Program is seeking to commission one artist or artist team to design, build and install functionally integrated site-specific public artwork for a pocket park located adjacent to a major vehicular corridor in Davie, Florida.

The pocket park is a 1.3 acre site currently under construction as part of a County road improvement project, situated on the east side of South Pine Island Road, between Southwest 18th and Southwest 21st Streets. The site is located along a major north/south vehicular corridor utilized by an estimated 29,000 vehicles daily. The artwork shall enhance the landscape design which includes a meandering walking path, shrubbery and trees, and must be visible to individuals traveling northbound without creating an obstruction or distraction. The artwork must be low maintenance and generate awareness of the attributes or history of the Town of Davie and Broward County and the native people who once resided in the area through a contemporary artistic approach. The total budget for the Pine Island Art Project is not to exceed $65,000 and will be divided between design and fabrication and installation of the artwork, including research, community engagement and agency meetings, designs, presentation expenses, permits, fabrication, lighting, delivery, installation, insurance, travel and all applicable taxes.

The Call to Artists is open to all professional artists residing in the United States who have completed a minimum of three public art projects budgeted at $20,000 or more and who have not received a commission in Broward County in the last ten years. Artists must be able to commit intensive time to the project during 2016 and willing to enter into an agreement with the County. Applications must be submitted via the CaFÉ website and include a letter of interest, professional résumé with public art commissions and contact information, 10 digital images of completed public art projects, an annotated image list, and a list of professional references (minimum of five). An Artist Selection Panel will review applications and select an artist based on the excellence of past work of similar scope, range of versatility, and appropriateness of media. Finalist interviews will be conducted by telephone. The deadline is February 15, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Contact Leslie Fordham at (954) 357-7532 or [email protected] for questions.
