About This Call
Piedmont Craftsmen invites applications for lifetime Exhibiting Membership in one of the country's finest craft guilds. Since its founding in 1964, Piedmont Craftsmen has evolved into one of the nation's most highly respected craft guilds, with close to 300 members. The organization presents an annual Fair considered one of the finest in the southeastern United States, with total sales by Exhibiting Members estimated at nearly $400,000. The gallery in downtown Winston-Salem's Arts District attracts roughly 15,000 visitors annually and grosses nearly $230,000 in sales.
The Standards Committee searches for new Exhibiting Members whose work shows excellence and creativity in concept, design, and technique. Accepted media includes book arts, clay, fiber, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, paper, photography, printmaking, and wood. The organization does not accept 2-D drawings, oil/acrylic/watercolor paintings on canvas, paper or wood, buy-sell items, food items, or commercially produced products. All work must be designed and produced by the applying artist or in a studio under their direct supervision.
The two-part review process includes an Image Review requiring eight images of best work from the last two years, artist statement, and $25 application fee. Applicants scoring above the median cutoff are invited to participate in the Object Review as Provisional Members during the November Fair, with booth fees approximately $655. Exhibiting Members enjoy opportunities to exhibit and sell through the annual Fair and year-round gallery, access to prominent collectors, and professional networking opportunities.
