Phoenix Photo Mural - Public Art

Atlanta Celebrates Photography invites photographers aged 13 and up to submit images for The Phoenix, an interactive photo-mural public art installation. The mural will feature dozens of photographs showcasing Atlanta's collaborative spirit and the people that make the city great. Selected images will be combined into an artistic interpretation of a phoenix, rendered as a 3D animation experience accessible via mobile device pointed at the mural.

The photo-mural will be installed on the northeast corner of Peachtree Street and 10th Street in Midtown Atlanta, adjacent to the 10th Street Park. It will be a featured component of the October 2021 ACP Festival. Photographers based in Georgia will be given preference. Submissions must be digitally formatted photography or lens-based media depicting people and activities that make Atlanta a great place to live, work, and play. Images depicting violence or nudity will be disqualified.

Each artist may submit up to 3 images. Submissions must include image title, year, location where the image was made, a succinct caption (2-3 sentences about the person or people in the image and why they make Atlanta great), and an artist bio or statement (maximum 4 sentences). Parental permission is required for applicants under 18 years of age. A panel of photo-industry leaders including Candy Tate, Greg Harris, Mark Johnson, and DL Warfield will select images based on theme relevance and artistic merit. Artists whose images are selected will receive an honorarium of $50 per image and promotional opportunities throughout the project (approximately 1 year).
