About This Call

The Regional Arts & Culture Council in Portland, Oregon invites artists and teams residing in the United States to submit qualifications for a public art opportunity at PGE Park, a sports stadium in Southwest Portland that will become the permanent home of the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer. The art budget for the project is $100,000.

The preferred sites for public art are the public plazas along SW 18th Street. The North Plaza is 4,668 sq ft and the South Plaza is 4,433 sq ft. The Selection Panel seeks an artist or team to create work that captures the vibrancy and energy of play at the site, is iconic for the site and neighborhood, captures the imaginations of all ages, and can compete with the character of a lively sports-oriented site. The Panel prefers a freestanding element that is contextually based but not sports-oriented. The artwork must comply with public safety and ADA guidelines and be made of durable, easily maintained materials.

Eligible applicants are artists currently living in the United States. Students enrolled in degree programs are not eligible. The selected artist or team will be contracted for a design phase during which a full proposal will be developed through interactions with site users, the selection panel, and the design team. The design fee will be paid from a portion of the art budget. The remainder of the art budget will cover all costs associated with fabrication and installation. The selected artist must provide stamped drawings from a structural engineer licensed by the State of Oregon. The artist or team will be required to consult with an art conservator regarding final design, fabrication, and installation plans. Applications must include a statement of interest (2,000 characters or less), a résumé (not to exceed 2 pages), and exactly 10 images of past work.
