About This Call
Petite Beauty is a group selling exhibition at the Jed Malitz V2 Gallery, located in the New Orleans Arts District. The exhibition will showcase small contemporary artworks, masks, or art jewelry demonstrating inspired vision and inventive techniques. Exhibitions will run from May through July 2016, with each invited artist's work scheduled for display for a minimum of 6 weeks, starting no later than 6 months after the artist is invited.
Works must be small: wall-mounted art at most 24"x36" (preferably under 18"x24"), sculptures less than 12"x12"x30", and masks at most 24"x24". All works must be originals made and signed by the artist, available for sale, and in mint condition. Works must be stable, sturdy, and safe to approach closely. Wall-mounted artworks must have affixed mounting systems and protrude less than 6" off the wall, weighing less than 20 pounds. Sculptures must weigh less than 20 pounds. Jewelry should be necklaces, bracelets, or rings (no earrings) and must be easily hung on nails or picture hooks. Photographic works, digital works, reproductions, works requiring electrical systems or custom lighting, and works requiring special installation or heavy equipment will not be accepted.
Works expressing Louisiana themes (soulfulness, music, Jazz, New Orleans, swamps, Mardi Gras, etc.) will receive preference. Non-traditional techniques and handmade components are preferable. Family-friendly subject matter is preferred. The application fee is $30 (non-refundable). Selected artists will receive a 45% commission from the Gallery on all sales. The artist-specified sale prices must already include the Gallery commission. Artists at all stages of their careers are welcome to apply; no prior exhibition history is required. Submit 1-20 images of your work. The Gallery will review submissions on an ongoing basis, minimally every month.
