About This Call
The Peter Bullough Foundation in historic downtown Winchester, Virginia provides intimate, focused residencies to emerging artists and writers, including those elevating voices and topics relevant to the LGBTQIA2S+ community. Applications are being accepted for fall 2024 residencies to work in private studios and enjoy the garden and former homes of Dr. Peter Bullough.
Each residency period is four weeks long and shared with 1-2 other artists in residence. Artistic collaborators in groups of 2-3 may apply in one application. Accepted disciplines include visual arts, literature, film/video arts, interdisciplinary arts, music/music composition, playwriting, screenwriting, poetry, scholars, theatre, and architecture. While in residence, artists are required to host a workshop, lecture, or event virtually or in-person.
Fall 2024 residency dates are: August 22 - September 17, September 26 - October 22, and October 24 - November 19. Free accommodations are provided in a renovated 1840's house with private bedrooms and shared common spaces. Private studios and workspaces are located in an adjacent building that also houses Dr. Bullough's book and art collections. A $550 stipend is provided to aid in covering supplies, necessities, and food for the month. Selection is a multi-step process involving PBF staff, residency alumni, and board members. Selections will be announced 30-45 days after the application deadline. The PBF is not ADA accessible at this time. Entry fee is $5.00. Applicants must submit an application form, resume/CV or statement of qualifications, two personal references, and a portfolio.
