About This Call
The South Florida Basket and Fiber Guild invites Florida residents to submit work for a juried exhibition showcasing original artwork that represents contemporary approaches to fiber art and that pushes the boundaries and/or traditions in media and execution. Emerging, mid-career, and established artists are encouraged to apply. The exhibition runs January 7 - February 10, 2017 at the Armory Art Center Annex in Lake Worth, Florida, during South Florida's "high season" and coinciding with Palm Beach County's annual Art Week.
Eligibility: Residents of Florida (full and part-time) 18 years and older may submit recent work that is either fiber in content or executed in a fiber technique. Work must be completed after January 1, 2014 and fall into one of these categories: Wall Works (two-dimensional), Sculptural Works (three-dimensional), Vessel Forms/Basketry (functional and sculptural), or Wearables (body adornments and accessories). Up to three pieces may be submitted. Entry fee is $40 for up to 3 works. All work must be original in concept, design and execution, and must be for sale with a 40% commission (30% to the Armory, 10% to the Guild).
Jury panel members are Jon Eric Riis (contemporary tapestry artist), Lois Russell (nationally recognized basket maker and past president of the National Basketry Organization), and Benjia Morgenstern (sculptural basketmaker). Notifications will be sent via email in early December. Cash prizes include Best in Show ($500) and Best in Category ($250). A full color catalog of the exhibition is planned, and exhibiting artists will receive a complimentary copy. Submission deadline is November 1, 2016. Selected artwork is due January 2-5, 2017. Opening reception is Friday, January 6, 2017, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Closing reception is Thursday, February 9, 2017, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
