About This Call
COLOR THEORY—Contemporary Abstraction will be open to the public for the month of April 2017. The jury is free to select works that exemplify current thought in abstraction, with special consideration given to artworks that address color as a means toward abstraction. Mount Vernon is located one hour north of Seattle, adjacent to the Skagit Valley, famous for its vividly colored tulip farms. In April, thousands visit for the aesthetic experience of witnessing the colors.
Only propose artworks that are for sale. Specify the dollar amount for each work. Prices should not exceed $3,000 per work, and the gallery will take a 50% commission. For 2-dimensional work (wall hanging), works must measure no more than 36 inches horizontally, including frame, with no vertical limit. Framing is at the artist's discretion; conventional wire hanging approximately 1/3 down from the top is required for hanging 2D artwork. No clip mounting or saw-tooth hangers will be accepted. With each work proposed, specify: title, medium, size in inches, and retail price. Entry fee is $30.00. Submit 2-10 images.
Notification date: March 17, 2017. Opening Reception: Thursday, April 6, 2017, to correspond with the City's First Thursday Art Walk. Accepted works must arrive by 5 PM on March 31, 2017. All work not sold must be picked up by 6 PM on May 5, 2017 if local, or will be shipped during the first week of May. Return postage is the artist's responsibility. The Perry and Carlson Gallery is dedicated to contemporary and conceptual art in all media, hosting solo shows, group shows, and exhibitions with emphasis on thought-provoking, narrative qualities.
