About This Call
Echo Hollow Pool, which opened in 1969, is seeking site-specific artwork for its renovation project. A total of $88,000 is available for the purchase of site-specific art, including artist fees, fabrication, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, documentation, and all other project costs.
The renovation scope includes establishing a visible entryway into the lobby, energy efficiency improvements (50% energy use reduction and 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions), updated locker rooms, increased family changing rooms, and expanded water surface. Potential art locations include the exterior entry plaza, SW fencing scrim, permanent shade structures, exterior walls of locker rooms, lawn areas, and interior lobby spaces. Suggested themes include creating visual draw from street to entryway, distinguishing the function of space, creating playful and energetic artwork, reflecting neighborhood identity, reinforcing social equity, highlighting the facility as a place for all ages, creating interactive opportunities, and responding to the energy savings of the project.
Artists may apply individually or as a team. Applicants must be professional artists located and working within Oregon with previous experience as a principal artist on a public commission with an art budget of at least $10,000. Submissions must include 8 JPEG images (no larger than 1200 x 1200 pixels, under 5MB each), optional video (up to 3 minutes), a letter of interest (maximum 2,000 characters), artist resume (2 pages maximum per person), image identification list, and 3 professional references. Submissions are due by 11:59 PM MST on December 31st, 2019 via Café. The Selection Committee will invite 3 finalists to create site-specific proposals. Finalists will each receive a $1,000 stipend and will have 6 weeks to prepare proposals. The selected artist will work under a Personal Services Contract with the City of Eugene and will be responsible for design modification, fabrication, engineering, and installation. Installation target is March 2021.
