About This Call
The City of Eugene is seeking artists to create site-specific public artwork for the new Farmers Market Pavilion (FMP) in downtown Eugene. The all-inclusive project budget is $66,000, which may be divided to commission multiple artists.
The FMP will be a permanent structure located at 8th and Oak in Downtown Eugene, allowing the Lane County Farmers Market to operate year-round. Artists are invited to create iconic, site-specific works that enliven the space and contribute to a sense of community belonging. Potential themes include: celebration and acknowledgment of the land, Willamette Valley, water, river, history, bounty, agriculture, farmers, and culturally diverse/inclusive communities. Artwork should integrate with the FMP vision and downtown/riverfront redevelopment areas, consider maintenance in a public space, and not impede pedestrian or traffic flow. Potential art locations include an interior CLT wall (approximately 80' x 18'), an exterior central plaza area (approximately 20' x 20'), and an exterior west-wall elevation for murals (approximately 50' x 12').
Eligibility is open to professional artists located and working within Oregon and Washington. Preference will be given to applicants with previous design, installation, and collaborative work experience. Submissions must include: a statement of interest (up to 2,000 characters), eight portfolio images of past projects with detailed notes, a resume/CV (maximum two pages), three professional references, and optionally one video (up to 3 minutes, under 100MB). Submissions must be received through Café by 5 PM PST on April 23, 2021. Finalists will be notified in early August and invited to create site-specific proposals. Finalists will receive a $400 design stipend for murals or $1,000 stipend for exterior sculptures and integrated interior artworks. The selected artist(s) will work under a Personal Services Contract with the City of Eugene.
