Perceive You

Shoebox Arts invites submissions for "Perceive You," an open call online exhibition running June 4 to July 3, 2022. This figurative self-portrait exhibition explores concepts of identity, vulnerability, empowerment, and perception. Inspired by Kristine Schomaker's project "Perceive Me," the exhibition asks artists to show what they see when they look at themselves: Who are you? What is your story? Where does your perception of yourself come from? How do you view yourself versus how do you think others see you?

"Perceive You" is a platform for empowerment, for owning who you are, for being unique and authentic, for taking back your bodies in the #metoo movement, for being true, powerful and strong no matter what body shape, size, color, gender, or disability you are/have. The exhibition is open to all artists age 18 and older.

Submission deadline is April 26, 2022 at 11 p.m. PST. Accepted artists will be announced May 14, 2022. A Zoom opening reception and artist talk will be held June 4, 2022 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. PST. Entry fee is $15 for 3 images, with up to 7 additional pieces available for $5 each (maximum 10 images total). Videos are limited to 10 minutes in length. All fine arts visual media will be considered, including drawing, painting, sculpture, digital, and intermedia work. Awards: First place $200, Second place $150, Third place $100. All sales will be handled through the artist with no gallery commission.
