About This Call
Pentwater is a lakeside community in West Michigan on the shores of Lake Michigan, north of Muskegon and south of Ludington. The Village of Pentwater supports a diverse and growing arts presence through a three-year public art project. The Downton Development Authority (DDA) and the Pentwater Arts Council (PAC) are hosting the Sculpture Walk 2023, with six locations along the main street identified to display works by selected artists. Each sculpture will have an identification plaque with a map and social media information. Educational activities and docent-led tours are planned, and the Village will host festival and events throughout the season to provide further exposure to the exhibition.
Artists may submit up to three separate entries for consideration. Artwork must be of professional quality, may use any variety of materials, and must not require maintenance throughout the exhibit. Sculptures must be safe, professionally designed and constructed, and able to be securely bolted to or embedded in a concrete pad or sit safely on the ground. Artwork should be sturdy, durable, and suitable for long-term outdoor exhibition from May 25 to October 14, 2023. Submissions require a minimum of three images from different perspectives (maximum 10) showing the base in at least one image. One video may be submitted for kinetic work. Each entry requires a written description including title, medium, dimensions, weight, date of construction, sale price, and detailed installation method.
Selected artists will receive a $1,500 honorarium payable after successful installation. Additional monetary awards for "Juror's Top Choice" and "People's Choice" will be announced at the October 14, 2023 Artist Reception and Celebration Event. All works will be for sale with a possible Purchase Award. Artists are responsible for transportation, installation, and insurance of their artwork, as well as removal if not purchased. Attendance at the October 14, 2023 reception is required. Professional and emerging artists at least 18 years old are eligible. All artwork must be original and executed by the applicant, completed by installation time. Entries will be juried by a committee of three professional artist/educators based on artistic merit, suitability to space, durability, and ability to engage the audience.
