Pence Gallery Emerging Artist Award 2023

The Pence Gallery announces the Emerging Artist Award 2023, open to emerging artists in California. This award supports the creation of new work by emerging artists and provides the opportunity to share that work through an exhibit and artist talk in January 2024.

The award amount is $4,000, which artists must use to further their work in a significant direction. Artists may work in any medium except video or sound art. 'Emerging' is defined as an artist who is early in their art career with limited experience exhibiting but not an extensive solo exhibit history. Submitted work must be of high caliber, original, and completed within the past five years.

Applications must include a resume, artist statement, and 3-10 digital images of current work submitted via www.callforentry.org by 9 PM PST on April 3, 2023. The application fee is $30 ($25 for Pence members). The winner will be announced by April 28th. Artists must be California residents and at least 18 years old at the time of application. Awardees are required to exhibit during January-February 2024 at the Pence Gallery, conduct an educational program (talk or workshop) in conjunction with their exhibit, and are responsible for delivery and pickup of their artwork.
