Pence Gallery Emerging Artist Award 2022

The Pence Gallery announces the Emerging Artist Award 2022, open to emerging artists in California. This award supports the creation of new work and the opportunity to share that work through an exhibit and artist talk. The award is underwritten by donors James R. and Suzette M. Smith and offers $3,000 and a solo exhibit at the Pence in January-February 2023.

'Emerging' is defined as an artist who is early in their art career with some experience exhibiting in group shows, but not an extensive solo exhibit history. Artists must submit work of high caliber, original, and completed within the past five years. The art submitted should not have been on view at the Pence before. Artists may work in any medium, except for video or sound art. Artists must be dedicated to the practice of making and exhibiting art and need financial support.

Eligibility: Must live in California, be over 18, and apply by the deadline. Entry fee is $30. Submit 3-10 images of work samples. The award will be determined by a panel of experts and donors.
