Pelona Vista Stair Mural

Pelona Vista Park is a 30-acre facility in Palmdale that includes ten lighted soccer fields, a fitness court, and a one-mile walking path. This public art opportunity invites artists to design and paint murals on two staircases that access the north fields. The project themes are health and wellness, sportsmanship, and community pride. Submitting artists should have experience designing and painting murals.

The all-inclusive budget for this project is $10,050, covering the artist fee, paint supplies, equipment rentals, and other expenses incurred by the artist. The wall surfaces are concrete and cinder block, which will be pressure washed, primered, and painted by the City in advance of mural installation. Upon completion, the City will apply an anti-graffiti coat to the mural. Artists must provide their own personal protection equipment, obtain insurance, and secure a current City of Palmdale business license before beginning work.

Selected artists will receive a $450 stipend to submit a color sketch or digital image of the proposed artwork to scale. Proposals must reflect project objectives and themes, be respectful of the community context, and take into consideration a small memorial tree planted in front of the wall. Proposed artwork must be family-friendly and cannot depict sexual conduct, sexually explicit nudity, or advertise any activity illegal under California or United States law. Applications must include a resume, 10-20 examples of previous mural work, 3 professional references, and a statement of interest. Applicants must be 18 years or older and reside in California. Application deadline: April 15, 2025. Mural installation may begin July 17, 2025, with completion required by August 31, 2025.
