About This Call
The Village of West Haverstraw, New York is pleased to invite regional artists or artist-led teams to submit qualifications for the Peck’s Pond Public Art Project, currently under development at the Village’s municipal center on Samsondale Avenue. Peck’s Pond is a scenic community gathering space featuring a pond with illuminated water displays, a walking path, fitness stations, and other recreational amenities. This project will commission a site-specific abstract mural measuring approximately 9 feet wide by 12 feet high. The mural will creatively engage with the surrounding landscape and enhance the visual experience of the pond and its illuminated walking path. Designed as a focal point within the park, the artwork will help activate the space and contribute to the area’s welcoming and vibrant atmosphere. Known as the Peck’s Pond Mural/Instagram Wall, the installation will also serve as an interactive destination for visitors. The artwork aims to celebrate and honor the multigenerational families that make up the West Haverstraw community. Visitors will be encouraged to capture photos with the mural and share their experiences using the hashtag #WalkWeHa while enjoying the pond, walking path, fitness stations, and other park amenities. Through this project, the Village hopes to create a visually engaging public artwork that strengthens community pride, encourages outdoor activity, and enhances Peck’s Pond as a destination for residents and visitors alike.
