About This Call
The City of Frisco Public Art Program is issuing a Request for Qualifications for a public art opportunity at Pearson Acres Park, a 10-acre neighborhood park located along Teel Parkway in Frisco, TX. The park will include multi-purpose open spaces, playground equipment, a pavilion, and walking trails. The public art project budget is $42,000.00 (all-inclusive, including artist fee, fabrication costs, transportation, insurance, engineering services, permit fees, site prep, and installation). The artwork must be completed by October 2020.
Pearson Acres Park will be built on land once owned by Charles Pearson and his family. Pearson was a Vocational Agriculture teacher at Frisco High School and served as President of the Frisco ISD Board of Trustees for 10 years. He and his wife Emily opened a dairy farm on this land in 1958 and operated it until 1987. White fencing made by Mr. Pearson will line an area of the park reserved for the public art project. The public art should reflect the history of the site as a dairy farm and serve as a tribute to Mr. Pearson's service to the community. Interactive and/or educational art is preferred.
The public art must be a freestanding, outdoor artwork suitable to be viewed from all angles, welcoming to visitors, and safe and hazard-free. Materials must be low-maintenance, durable, resistant to vandalism, and approved by City of Frisco staff, with special attention to heat resistance. Submissions must include a cover letter, artist resume, artist statement, three references, and 5-15 images of past work (with the first five being most relevant to this project). This opportunity is open to all artists. Questions should be submitted to [email protected] by June 14, 2019, 4:00 p.m. CST. Finalists will be notified on or before July 19, 2019.
