Pearl Street East End Community Chair Project

Selected artists will participate in a live painting event on Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. Artists must create original work adhering to the theme of Life Cycles, illustrating the life cycles of plants and animals with emphasis on growth, transformation, and renewal. Downtown Boulder staff and volunteers will be available to help refill water and watch painting stations for quick breaks. Lunch will be provided.

Selected artists will paint two Adirondack-style wooden chairs (each 39 in H x 34 in D x 32 in W). Chairs will be primed and ready to paint upon arrival. Artists must provide all necessary materials and equipment for painting, including drop cloths to protect the ground and city infrastructure. Both chairs must be completed by 7:00 pm on September 28th and cannot be moved from their assigned locations. Each artist will be assigned a pair of chairs at one of five pre-selected locations along the East End of Pearl Street in Boulder, CO.

Eligibility: Colorado residents able to transport themselves to Boulder. Artists must be comfortable painting outside in the elements and able to provide their own supplies and materials. Artwork will be juried based on quality, originality, creativity, and application responses. Notifications of selection will be sent by email the week of September 9, 2024. Each selected artist will receive an $800 stipend via check and must submit a W9 prior to September 28th. Chair artwork will be displayed for one calendar year with a QR code linking to the artist's professional website or social media. Downtown Boulder will conduct a public vote during fall 2024, with first, second, and third place winners eligible for additional cash prizes to be awarded by the end of 2024. Application deadline: September 8, 2024 at 11:59 pm MST. No application fee. Submit minimum 3 and maximum 5 digital images of current artwork.
