About This Call
Pattern and Repetition is an online juried exhibition open to artists 18 years of age or older working in all media. The exhibition runs December 23, 2021 – January 23, 2022.
Site:Brooklyn is seeking work that builds on, questions, and explores pattern and replicated forms in the widest way possible, across all styles and mediums. Beginning in the post-war period, pattern and repetition assumed centrality to the visual arts. In Western art, it was the advent of modernism that incorporated non-European influences with formalist explorations of space, bringing pattern and repetition into their own as self-conscious subjects and methods of artistic practice.
Juror: Angelik Vizcarrondo-Laboy (She/Her) is a New York and Los Angeles-based curator, writer, and arts administrator of contemporary art and craft. She serves as Assistant Curator at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD), New York, and oversees MAD's Burke Prize. Her research investigates the "aesthetics of optimism," humor, cuteness, maximalism, and the decorative as powerful subversive tools of protest, with a focus on amplifying the voices of BIPOC artists.
Submission Requirements: Only original works may be submitted. Submit 3-8 images and up to 3 videos. Entry fee is $25.00 for up to three images, $10 for each additional image. All entries must be received by November 15, 2021 11:59 PM MT. Entry fees are non-refundable. Notification of acceptance: November 23, 2021. Once accepted, artists must upload high-resolution photo files. All artwork must be priced for sale and available for sale during the exhibition. Artists retain 60% commission on all sales.
