About This Call
The Patrick Lyndon School serves kindergarteners through eighth graders and their families, located at 20 Mount Vernon Street in West Roxbury. The school adopts Albert Einstein's philosophy as part of its mission to nurture human curiosity and create a high-quality learning environment that fosters a lifelong love of learning.
The school is undertaking a major renovation of its exterior main entrance including new seating, landscaping, walkways, and fencing, with completion expected in June 2007. An area has been designated for an art element, and the school is seeking one artist to provide an art component that enhances these improvements, inspires students daily, and represents Albert Einstein. The selected artist must consider student safety, work with existing landscape elements, and design site-specific work that is safe to touch and move around and on. Artists are encouraged to create a welcoming entrance that integrates durable and low-maintenance artistic features and may consider an interactive, educational, or discovery component.
Eligibility is open to artists, designers, or teams residing in New England and New York. Artists or teams currently working on a public commission in Boston or who had a public art commission over $100,000 installed in Boston within the last two years are ineligible. The selected artist will be paid to create a full proposal, with design development funding provided by the school. Additional funding is being solicited to cover manufacturing and installation costs, with a maximum project budget of approximately $75,000. Applications must include ten digital images of relevant work, a resume (maximum two pages per artist), and an artist's statement (not exceeding 4,000 characters). All materials must be submitted through CaFE at http://www.callforentry.org/. Contact: Jean Mineo, Public Art Project Manager, 508-242-9991, [email protected].
