About This Call

PATH's Exchange Place Station is located in Jersey City's financial district near the historic Paulus Hook neighborhood. The station, originally opened in 1909, is PATH's 7th busiest station, serving the Newark to World Trade Center line and the Hoboken to World Trade Center line. In 2023, Exchange Place saw 2.79 million riders. The station is undergoing major rehabilitation and restoration work scheduled to finish in 2024, including new flooring, lighting, and restoration of ceilings and walls.

This is a design-only call for a digital mural project. Vinyl murals will be installed on metal panels behind escalators in Riverside Headhouse: 2 walls measuring 14 H x 11 W (6 panels each) and 1 metal wall measuring 6 H x 8 W. The selected artist will supply digital design files for fabrication and installation by PATH contractors. Overall themes of interest include pops of color to brighten the space, inspiring people through inclusivity, and connection to local communities and neighborhoods. The project budget is $15,000. Three selected finalists will each receive a $1,000 stipend to cover costs associated with preparing a formal request for proposal presentation.

Eligibility: Artists/artist teams must be at least 18 years old, legally able to complete a contract with PANYNJ, and either be a New Jersey resident or live within 150 miles of New Jersey's border. Preference will be considered for artists with a strong connection to Jersey City. Employees of the State of New Jersey are not eligible. Submissions must include: a letter of no more than 2 pages summarizing interest and qualifications, three references from similar projects, a resume/CV, and 4-8 images of previously completed artworks (preferably public art). Final digital files must be delivered by mid-September 2024 in print-ready PDF format at 100 dpi high resolution. Submissions are accepted through CAFÉ at www.callforentry.org only. Finalist presentations will take place virtually the week of July 8.
