About This Call
VIEW is partnering with the Guild of American Papercutters (GAP) to showcase papercutting, an artform found in different forms throughout the world. Known as Scherenschnitte in German-speaking lands, Wycinanki in Poland, Jianzhi in China, and Papel Picado in Mexico, papercutting is largely unknown in the region. The theme of "Paper Trails" references the trail-filled Adirondack home as well as the paths papercutting has followed from its origins to the United States. This juried exhibit will include works of original design created with scissors, craft knife, and even sheep shears.
The exhibition will be held in View's largest gallery from June 1-July 21, 2024. Entry deadline is April 19, 2024, with work to be received at View by May 24, 2024. Artists may submit up to 3 pieces. Entry fee is $30 ($20 for View members and GAP members), with an additional $5 per image for submissions beyond the first. All work must be of original design and personal execution created within the past 10 years, movable by one person, and suitably framed and ready for installation. Artwork previously shown at View is not eligible. Selection notification will be sent by May 1, 2024. View receives 35% commission on any sales made during or resulting from the exhibition. All shipping is at the expense of the artist, with a $10 handling fee per package. A prepaid shipping label for return of work must be included.
The juror of selection is Melanie Kehoss, an MFA holder from University of Wisconsin-Madison and founding board member of the Arlington Visual Art Studio Tour. For questions, contact Kelsey Lynn Mayo, Exhibitions Manager, at [email protected] or 315-369-6411 x206.
