About This Call
This call invites paper presentations, demonstrations, and workshops related to mokuhanga, Japanese woodcut printmaking. The conference welcomes international submissions across multiple topics including mokuhanga history and philosophy, educational practices and international exchange, contemporary mokuhanga practices, materials and suppliers, art markets, local practice in Hawaii and the Pacific Coast, environmental and social aspects, and individual artists' presentations.
Workshops and demonstrations must be related to mokuhanga and are limited to a maximum of two hours including translation. Presenters must bear the cost of required tools and materials, with work tables provided. Selected presenters are expected to pay the conference registration fee.
Paper presentations must cover one of the specified subjects and be submitted in English or Japanese, under 3000 words. Oral presentations are limited to 20 minutes maximum. Selected presenters must submit the full text of their presentation in advance for publication in the Conference Proceedings book. Submission requirements include: a 300-word outline or abstract in English or Japanese, three digital images in JPEG format (maximum 1MB each), a 100-word biography, and a passport-size portrait in JPEG format.
