Paper + Fiber: The Art of Gifting

1202 Contemporary's 5th annual Paper+Fiber exhibition is a vibrant exploration of artistic expressions through paper and fiber mediums, curated with the art of intentional gift-giving in mind. Paper and fiber arts, long embraced by women artists, have often been relegated to the realm of "craft," overshadowed by the fine art world's more "traditional" mediums. This show represents a commitment to redefining this narrative, championing paper and fiber as profound forms of fine art in their own right.

The exhibition will feature a diverse array of small works that showcase the depth and versatility of textile, fiber, and paper. The jury will evaluate each artist's body of work as a whole, their career, and their history of using the materials centered in this exhibition. The jury will select 1-3 pieces per artist to be featured in the show, eligible for both the in-person exhibition and the gallery website. 1202 Contemporary welcomes all artists who identify as women artists as long as their medium of choice is paper, fiber, or textile, and the medium comprises at least 85% of the work. Priority for the in-person show will be given to women artists in the Bay Area, but artists from across the globe are welcome to submit. 20-25 pieces will be selected for the in-person show.

All submitted work must be for sale with a retail price under $1,000. Works must be no larger than 24" x 24" and composed of at least 85% paper or fiber. The gallery commission is 20% if sold in the gallery or on the website. Applications require a short bio and artist statement. The entry fee is $25. Submissions must include 5-10 images and up to 5 videos. The entry deadline is November 9, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MST. The exhibition runs November 21, 2025 through January 3, 2026.
