Palate to Palette: Art and Appetite

Palate to Palette: Art and Appetite is an art exhibition exploring themes of food, cooking, and eating through painting, drawing, sculpture, graphic design, ceramics, collage, industrial design, video, textiles, clay, and other media. The exhibition runs from January 13, 2018 through March 3, 2018. Two awards of $500 each will be given: one for best representational piece and one for best functional piece.

2D, relief, 3D, and time-based works, as well as functional objects and furniture are admissible. Relevant subjects include food, kitchen appliances, communal tables, dishes and dishwashing, breakfast still-lifes, potable water, food and wine labels, crockery, restaurants, soup kitchens, food scarcity and food waste, cooking videos, and serving platters. Images of accepted works will be considered for inclusion in a full-color print cookbook accompanying the exhibition. The final week of the exhibition coincides with Traverse City Restaurant Week, with a schedule of related programming and events.

The call is open to residents of Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Ontario, and to all Crooked Tree Arts Center members regardless of residency, 18 years and older. Entry fee is $35. Crooked Tree Arts Center members receive a 50% discount on the submission fee (use coupon code PPAA18). Work sample requirements: 1-5 images, 0-1 audio file, 0-2 video files, with a total of 1-8 samples.
