About This Call
This 4-day workshop focuses on painting costume-themed portraits. Students will paint from a live model as well as from photos, learning the differences between the two and how to use photo references effectively. The instructor will provide demonstrations throughout the painting process.
The workshop covers gilding techniques, oil painting techniques, light and shadow, mixing skin tones and complementary colors for flesh tones, identifying warm and cool colors, facial proportions, simplifying elements, and various types of portrait lighting. Participants should be intermediate-level painters in the oil medium.
The instructor is a professional art instructor and commissioned portrait artist whose work is in private collections across the United States, Canada, and Great Britain. Her work has been featured in National and International magazines including the American Art Collector, Fine Art Connoisseur, The Guide Artists Magazine, and the Journal of the Portrait Society of America. She is a member of the Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America, and the Portrait Society of Atlanta, and has earned finalist status in the Portrait Society of America's National competition and semi-finalist status in the Art Renewal Center International competition.
Entry fee: $15.00. Application deadline: March 7, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Submit 3 images of your work.
