Painting the Blues

The Rhode Island Watercolor Society is accepting submissions for a winter exhibition with the theme open to interpretation. Artists are encouraged to submit pieces that feature the color blue, are inspired by Blues music, and/or that evoke feeling blue. Over $400 in cash prizes will be awarded. The exhibition will take place online only, with exhibition dates from December 16th through January 19th. The online show opening reception will be held Thursday, December 21st at 6pm on Zoom. Notification of acceptance will be sent December 15th.

Eligibility requirements: Work must not have been exhibited in a previous Rhode Island Watercolor Society juried show and must have been completed within the last 10 years. Work may not be copied from copyrighted material, partially or wholly painted by another, created under the direct guidance of another, or created by following a tutorial. Work may have been done in a class or workshop using only reference material belonging to the sole artist. Submitted digital images must represent the actual work with no alterations, and work must be the same size as represented in the submission form. There is no size limit for this show.

Acceptable mediums include any 2D media such as watercolor, gouache, acrylic, oils, ink, casein, and egg tempera on any 2D surface. Photography, 3D media, reproductions, and digital art are not acceptable. Submission fee is $15 per image for non-members and $10 per image for members. Submit 1-3 images. Work may be listed as not for sale (NFS) by entering 0 in the price section or contacting [email protected]. If work is sold through the online gallery, the Rhode Island Watercolor Society will receive 35% of the sale. Shipping is not required as pieces will be displayed in digital format only. Open to all artists in the United States.
