About This Call
The Town of Castle Rock Public Art Commission (TOCR PAC) and the Castle Rock Artist Cooperative (CRAC) seek proposals for a public art mural project to be painted in Downtown Castle Rock, Colorado. Artists are invited to submit a proposal for a large-scale work of art using the theme "Painting Positivity"—centered around the ideas of positivity, unity, hope, and love. The program seeks to use art to trigger important conversations and provide a message of hope for the community.
The mural site is located on the north wall of the Fort CPA Group at 407 Wilcox Street. The wall surface is smooth exterior plaster over concrete block with approximate dimensions of 12'-10" tall by 58'-3" wide, including a window and door. The selected artwork must communicate and promote positivity through design, color, and subject matter for public viewing of all ages. Materials must be of the highest quality, designed and fabricated for durability of at least 20 years with low maintenance. Artists must complete required applications of anti-graffiti and UV protective coating/sealant. The budget for this project is up to $5,000, inclusive of all costs including artist design fee, materials, installation labor, insurance coverage, scaffolding rental, travel, per diem expenses, project documentation, and contingency. Half the award will be provided upfront with the remainder upon conclusion of the mural.
Eligibility is open to all artists/artist teams with legal status to work in the United States. Proposals must include a statement of interest (250 words or less), resume, detailed budget, and detailed sketch of proposed artwork. All materials must be submitted electronically in PDF format by 5:00 PM on February 21, 2021 to [email protected]. Winners will be notified by March 15, 2021, with contract phase beginning March 31, 2021 and installation expected to occur April-June 2021. Any awarded artist or team must have general liability insurance and submit current certification of insurance at the time of contract signing.
