Paint Grand Traverse 2021

Crooked Tree Arts Center in Traverse City, Michigan seeks artists for Paint Grand Traverse, a national plein air painting festival and competition now in its fourth year. The festival features 30-40 artists from across the country. This opportunity is open to all U.S. residents, 18 years and older. All painting media are eligible.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival offers two plans: Plan A (six days long, with outdoor/indoor gatherings and housing provided in host homes) and Plan B (four days long, socially distanced, housing not provided). The plan will be announced on June 1 based on pandemic conditions and guidance from state and local health departments. Artists willing and able to participate in either plan are encouraged to apply.

Plan A features a $2,500 cash award for best in show. Plan B features a $1,000 cash award for best in show. All other prizes to be announced. Entry fee is $40.00 per artist ($25.00 for CTAC members; free for CTAC Artist Guild Members). Submit 5-7 images of recent plein air artwork with title, dimensions, medium, and date. Digital images should be cropped to show the painting only. Also submit artist bio, CV, and artist statement. A panel of five jurors comprised of practicing artists, collectors, and curators will review submissions. Notification of acceptance will be sent by March 10. Accepted artists must submit a signed letter of agreement by March 31. Works created during the festival must be for sale, with price set by the artist. Crooked Tree Arts Center will retain a 40% commission on all sales.
