About This Call

The Denver Arts & Venues Public Art Program and the Paco Sanchez Park Art Selection Panel are seeking artists for a public art commission at Paco Sanchez Park, located at 12th Avenue and Federal Boulevard in the West Colfax and Villa Park neighborhoods of west Denver. The park is the new site for the Re-imagine Play project, an innovative multi-generational activity and play area that expands the definition of play to promote public health. The artwork can be located anywhere within the park, with specific locations to be determined at semifinalists' site visit.

The selection panel seeks a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork appropriate for Paco Sanchez Park that speaks to community-based connections, including the history of the area, the legacy of Paco Sanchez, and the native residents of the Villa Park neighborhood. Artists should demonstrate experience integrating artwork into the built environment and surrounding landscape. All media and materials are welcome, including light and sound. Artwork must be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials suitable for public spaces exposed to weather, physical stresses, and potential vandalism.

This project is open to Colorado residents regardless of race, color, creed, gender, gender variance, sexual orientation, national origin, age, religion, marital status, political opinion or affiliation, or mental or physical disability. Artists working in any media are eligible; previous public art experience is not required and emerging artists are encouraged to apply. The budget for this commission is up to $18,000 USD. Applicants should submit six digital images, a résumé, and a statement of interest (no longer than 2,000 characters) via www.callforentry.org. Up to five semifinalists will be selected for interviews; if a formal proposal is requested, the artist will receive a $500 honorarium to prepare and present the proposal in person. The selected artist or team will collaborate with Public Art Program staff and the design team when finalizing designs for installation.
