Oversized Outdoor Mural Request for Designs - Moline, IL

The Moline Public Art Commission and Quad City Arts seek the design and installation of a public mural on the west-facing brick wall of 1405 5th Avenue, Moline, IL, above the patio of a local restaurant. The paintable surface is approximately 110 feet long and 22 feet tall. The mural will be highly visible on 5th Avenue, a heavily used downtown corridor near Mercado on Fifth, a popular Friday night market.

The mural should be vibrant and exciting, intended to enhance local quality of life, community pride, beautification, and creative placemaking. The mural should not include welcome verbiage, explicit reference to the City of Moline, or river elements. Artists must have large-scale mural experience with sufficient knowledge of medium and materials to ensure durability.

Payment is $30,000, with 50% paid upon contract execution and 50% within 2 weeks of completion. This fee includes all associated costs (materials, paint, transportation, insurance, etc.). Up to ten days of lodging and a scissor or articulating lift will be provided upon request. The timeline includes late September 2023 for RFP review and initial interviews, early October for final artist and design selection, and October for mural completion (subject to weather and agreement with building owner). Applicants must be professional artists over 18 and reside within the United States. Submit 1-3 images of work samples.
