About This Call
Outta Pocket is an exhibition that highlights creative work using clay or ceramics in an atypical, non-traditional, eclectic or eccentric way. This could include work utilizing mixed media, cold or alternative surfaces, new technologies or emerging hybrid practices. Whether your work is conceptual, sculptural, functional, design-centric or performative, if it's Outta Pocket, we welcome it.
Eligibility: All adults age 18+ working in the United States are eligible to apply. All work must have been completed between January 2021 and the present. Submissions should include up to 3 works with no more than 3 images per work. Work samples may include 1-9 images, 0-2 audio files, and 0-2 video files. Entry fee is $25. Preference may be given to submissions within 18 x 18 x 24 inches (LxWxH), though larger works will be considered.
Important Dates: Submission deadline is Friday, June 7 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Jurying occurs June 8-24. Accepted artists will be notified by June 28 at 5:00 p.m. CST. Artworks arrive at Manhattan Arts Center July 15-26. Exhibition runs July 29 - August 23, with a closing reception on August 23 from 4-6 p.m. Work will be shipped back between August 26 - September 13 if not sold. Juror: Nicholas Geankoplis, ceramics program director at Kansas State University. Location: Manhattan Arts Center, Philip & Jeune Kirmser Gallery, 1520 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502. All shipping costs are the responsibility of the artist. Three prizes will be awarded: People's Choice Award ($150, based on concurrent exhibition poll), and two Staff Choice Awards ($75 each). Awards will be announced at the closing reception.
