About This Call
The Outside the Box: Traffic Box Mural Project is open to all Colorado artists and artist teams, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical or mental disability. Youth groups and schools are highly encouraged to submit designs. The call is open to photographers, graphic designers, and artists working in digital media. City of Thornton employees are not eligible.
Submissions must be two-dimensional and translatable to a digital image. Original, non-digital artwork must be done on a durable surface (cotton-rag, poster, bristol, etc.) that can be easily scanned. Designs cannot incorporate gold leaf or layers of mixed media that can come loose during scanning. A maximum of three designs may be submitted by any one artist or team. Designs must be family-friendly, pleasing, and add beauty to the community. Designs cannot contain business promotions, advertisements, intellectual property breaches, brands, trademarks, depictions of illegal activities, or physical objects attached to the traffic box. The design must be continuous and cover all four sides of the traffic box.
Chosen designs will be converted to digital images and printed on high-quality vinyl wraps to cover the traffic box on all sides. All design submissions are reviewed and selected by members of the TASHCO Public Art Subcommittee based on artistic merit, creativity, and overall impact on the community. The committee reserves the right to reject any or all entries. Selected artists will be awarded $800 from TASHCO for their design. The City of Thornton will own all rights to the image should the artwork need to be reprinted due to damage or replacement. Payment will be issued once the vinyl wrap has been installed.
