About This Call
The Bernalillo County Arts Board solicits proposals from regional artists for outdoor sculptures to be located along highly visible avenues and boulevards within Bernalillo County, New Mexico. Regional artists residing in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and Texas are invited to propose conceptual mid-size sculptures. The project, named "Outposts," is conceived to combine the duality of Bernalillo County and the Southwestern region, including the co-existence of mountains and valley, urban and rural communities, monsoon and dry seasons, and ancient and modern cultures.
Phase II calls for five additional sculptures to be installed on the west side of 2nd Street in Albuquerque north of Osuna Road, along the Alameda Drain and Trail Master Plan area. The sculptures will be spaced approximately 2,000 feet apart and installed near highly visited tourist and local attractions such as the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta Park and Rio Grande Valley State Park. The established budget for Phase II is $25,000 per sculpture. Sculptures should be approximately 15 feet in height with a 7-foot pedestrian clearance, attached to a 6-inch diameter metal pipe, and have a structural lifetime of at least 25 years to withstand high altitude ultraviolet rays and sustained winds of 35 miles per hour.
Proposals must include: an artist's statement (not to exceed 1,000 words); a letter of intent (not to exceed 1,000 words) describing ideas, themes, and proposed techniques; up to three preliminary design sketches; up to seven digital images of past work; an annotated image key with full name, numerical listing, title, media, dimensions, and year of completion for each image; and a resume. Applicants must submit 3-10 total work samples.
