About This Call
The City of Livermore Commission for the Arts invites qualified sculpture artists residing in the United States to submit proposals for outdoor sculptures to be placed in selected locations along First Street in Livermore, California. Up to four sculptures will be selected, with up to $25,000 allocated for each sculpture. Selected sculptures will become the property of the City of Livermore. Artists may submit a maximum of four applications. Although sculptures are being selected for four locations, artists only need to submit one application for consideration to all locations and may indicate a preferred location for each application.
Application Requirements: Submit three color images of one sculpture (two showing front and back, one showing detail with scale), an artist statement or résumé with website address if available, up to two color images labeled "Sample Work" representing the artist's original work and sculpture experience, and contact information for three references from projects of similar scope and size. Work sample requirements: minimum 3 images, maximum 5 images; optional video (maximum 1); total samples minimum 3, maximum 6.
Selection Criteria: Proposals will be reviewed by the Commission for the Arts and a community panel including representatives from Livermore Downtown Inc., Livermore Chamber of Commerce, local youth/schools, local community arts groups, and Livermore residents. Sculptures should capture attention and engage the public; be contemporary and interactive; aesthetically enhance the Downtown; be appropriate for high pedestrian traffic; be designed with public safety consideration; be constructed of permanent, durable, virtually maintenance-free materials; withstand adverse weather conditions; not involve electric power, water, electronics, or be based on light sources; and be suitable for public viewing. Sculptures identical to those already placed or to be placed in other similar public sculpture programs within 200 miles of Livermore will not be considered. The project budget is $100,000, with all costs for design, supplies, materials, fabrication, transportation, delivery, and required insurance included in the artist's budget. Installation, identification plaque, and ongoing maintenance are the City's responsibility. Proposed schedule: Entry deadline March 15, 2016; jury review March 16 - April 15; Commission for the Arts approval April 26, 2016; City Council approval May 23, 2016; installation date to be determined.
