About This Call
"Our People" is a juried Black History Month exhibition hosted by The Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County. The exhibition invites artists to submit contemporary 2D and 3D works celebrating Black culture and its influence on the world. Artwork must have an emphasis on Black Art, conveying a positive message of Black pride and/or appreciation of Black heritage or cultural influence. Artists of all levels—established, emerging, international, and students—are eligible to participate. Work must not have been previously shown in the gallery.
Online submissions are accepted through December 26, 2023 (midnight). The entry fee is $15. Artists may submit up to three pieces, with a minimum of 1 image and maximum of 3 images, or up to 2 videos, for a total of 1-5 work samples. Accepted artists will be notified by January 2, 2024. The exhibition runs January 26 - March 2, 2024 at the Arts Center Gallery in Fayetteville, NC. A private artist reception is scheduled for January 26, 5-6 p.m., followed by a public reception, juror remarks, and award announcements from 6-8 p.m.
Artwork must have wire backing and fit through a standard door frame to accommodate the gallery's walker hanging system. Artists are responsible for shipping costs both to and from the gallery, including insurance during transit. Artwork must arrive by January 19, 2024, and will be shipped back no later than March 8, 2024. The Arts Council covers insurance and liability while artwork is in the gallery. Awards include: First Place $500, Second Place $350, Third Place $150, and two Honorable Mentions at $50 each. Jurors are Brandon Dean Johnson, Bryane Broadie, and Makayla Binter, with Collyn Strother as curator. For questions, contact [email protected].
